2024 STAAFR Gravel Ride

Our 2023 ride was a great success. Mark your calendar now for our 2024 event. 'Such Thing As A Free Ride' (STAAFR) gravel event is sponsored by 2 Rivers Bicycle and Outdoor of Fort Atkinson WI. As the name implies, it is 100% FREE. This is a great way to try out gravel riding if you have never participated in an event. We do ask you REGISTER below so we know how many riders to expect.

  • WHEN: July 21st 2024 (Sunday) 1 p.m. Arrive between 12 noon and 12:30 p.
  • WHERE: The ride will start in Orangeville IL at the Richland Creek Trailhead and Shelter House.
  • DISTANCE: Short route (25 miles) and long route (50 miles)
    • A bike that can be ridden on gravel (stop by the store with your bike if you are unsure).
    • Spare tube and inflation tool if you get a flat.
    • Helmet.
    • Plenty of fluids (we will have one water break/station).
    • Food to eat on the bike.
    • GPS capable computer, smartphone with a bike navigation app or map holder (route download and map will be provided to registrants prior to the event). The course WILL NOT BE MARKED.

  • REST STOP: This is primarily a self-supported ride. Plan on having ~20 oz of fluid per hour + food. Average speeds on gravel are typically 3-4 mph slower than what you average on the road. We will have one water stop (water, hydration powder, some snacks/food) at the Post Office in McConnell IL.
